Ice Cream Needs a Lot of Milk!
While the most decadent ice creams can seem like a dense dessert, you might be surprised to learn just how much milk it takes to make a gallon of ice cream. To get the delicious creamy flavor and texture just right, it requires three gallons of whole milk to make one gallon of ice cream. Milk cows produce, on average, about six gallons of milk a day, which means that a single cow could be responsible for making almost 730 gallons of your favorite ice cream each year!
The World’s Favorite Flavor
With all sorts of sweet flavors available in ice cream, it might be hard to believe that the world’s favorite flavor is vanilla, but it’s true! We think it might be because vanilla has such a pleasant taste and because it works as the perfect base for adding all kinds of toppings and sauces. The next time you come to Cruz Creamery and you aren’t sure what you want, we suggest giving vanilla a shot. We have several different kinds of ice creams with vanilla bases or you can build the perfect sugary cone of flavor at our topping bar!
The Amazing Texture of Ice Cream
Even with all of the milk, sugar, and other ingredients it takes to make ice cream, you’ve probably noticed that your spoon easily slides right into it and that the texture is light and fluffy…at least it is until you stick it back in the freezer and come back to it later. The reason why refrozen ice cream is less soft is because once it has melted, all of the little tiny air bubbles that were a part of the very structure of the ice cream since the mixing process have gone away. Without the extra “cushioning” that those air bubbles provide, everything settles together. While it still tastes great, it won’t have that same texture that you love. Until you get another pint, that is!
